Physical Health & Movement
Learning occurs as students engage in physical activity such as dance, yoga, martial arts, and other various sports.
Various areas of the brain are tasked and strengthened when learning by doing, exploring, and discovering a new movement with the body. Preliminary research has indicated that kinesthetic learning results in increased learning outcomes for all students.
Martial arts and yoga in school programs have been shown to reduce tension in students, increase attention in class, reduce bullying, and increase self-regulatory behaviors. Most importantly, students report that they experience those activities as fun!
Sadly, many schools have cut physical education due to lack of funding or physical education is sometimes simply free-play. Structured physical activity every day keeps students mentally alert, and physically fit, and produces healthy habits for incorporating purposeful exercise into a daily routine.
